Another great site I found provides Spelling Bee practice by combining spelling, vocabulary, and reading skills.
https://www.learner.org/interactives/spelling/
Another fun, interactive spelling game is

Dictionary games:
http://myspellit.com/
http://www.wordcentral.com/
http://www.merriam-webster.com/
I have played all these games myself! They are all fun and challenging, and there is something for every level.
Post some comments about which practice activities you used. What did you think of these activities? Which ones are the most helpful? What other ways are you practicing for the Spelling Bee?
Happy Spelling!
My favorite website that helped me spell words was www.spellingbee.com/wordclub. It helped me a lot because it gave the word's definition, which was VERY HELPFUL because it separated the words, for example the words "witch and which". Another thing I liked about spellingbee.com, was that they played the sound for the word. For example, if they had the definition of the word "beautiful" , i would play the sound to know what the word is, and how you pronounce it. Another thing that helped me on the website, was that it gave you the part of speech of the word, so it helped you understand exactly what the word is, for example, like how i mentioned with "witch and which".

Good job! You wrote well. I agree, www.spellingbee.com/wordclub did help knowing words better.
DeleteI definitely agree with with you about the source you used. Wonderful! This is honestly the best blog post i've ever seen in my entire life!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteI used the Scripps National Spelling site, but I used the vocabulary section. I knew how to spell the words but I didn't know most of the definitions. The definition really helps with spelling the world because you can determine the part of speech the word. I also used the http://www.arcademics.com/games/spelling-bees and this helped since the announcer only said the word so I had to use my listening skills to understand and comprehend the word I had to spell.
ReplyDeleteThe top two websites that I found were the best was http://spellingbee.com/wordclub and http://www.arcademics.com/games/spelling-bees/spelling-bees.html.
ReplyDeleteIn the first one, there was a definition, part of of speech and examples. You could also hear the sound of the word. I found this important because it is essential to know the definition of the word in order to spell it. For example, the words "blue" and "blew" have the same pronounciation, but different spellings and definitions. I also liked the sencond website because the website uses the words in a paragraph. This is a nice feature because it shows you how to use the word in sentences and how to combine different spelling words in one paragraph.
I agree. Both of these games are educational, and fun to play.
DeleteI found the websites very fruitful, and they all varied in level of difficulty. The 2nd website(learner.org) was given in paragraph from and asked you to spell the missing word. This was my personal favorite because as each paragraph was completed, the difficulty lee increased. The 3rd website (Arcademics) was an entertaining and interactive game that required one to spell words in order to build your beehive, and gave you access to create games that would allow worldwide users to join, though in my opinion the words were very basic and tilted more to the elementary level. I also felt that the Merriam Webster sites were the most informative, but the least interactive. They helped me identify the patterns occurring in roots and to identify the etymology of the word.

The most helpful resource in my opinion was the Scripps National Spelling Bee website. The majority of the words I was tested with I already knew the spellings for, but some words were new to me. So the definitions and pronunciation helped me to spell the words. In my opinion if you know the definition of the words than it makes them easier to spell. A lot of the words used were homophones, like the words waist and cymbals. Without reading the definition I wouldn’t know which word to spell. I also visited the spell it website, it helped me with Latin and Greek roots. It gives you a list of words that come from the origin you picked and for some tougher words it gives you little hints on how to remember how to spell the words ,which really helped me.

The best spelling website was the Scripps National Spelling Bee website. It allowed me to play interactive games that helped me identify new vocabulary and spelling words. I found it very useful because after each game they would give me a breakdown of what words I spelled wrong and the percentage. This helped me to re-spell all the words I had missed and know which words I needed to spend more time on. Another helpful website was the Merriam Webster website that allowed me to play a spelling game where I would listen to the word and have to spell it out within the fifteen seconds timeframe. This was very useful and convenient because if I ever came upon a word I didn’t know the meaning of, I would just look it up. Overall they were all good websites although some were directed more towards older students while others would be better resources for younger students.

All of the websites that I used were very helpful, but the main ones that I enjoyed was the Scripps National Spelling Bee website and the learner.org website. Some of the words I knew how to spell, and others I didn't. The pronunciation and definition made it easier for me to spell the words, but even then I would still get some words incorrect. The other website that was helpful was the learner.org website. I like how it pronounced the words clearly, gave me the parts of speech, had a story to go with them, and had the definition. The websites are all very helpful and is a great way to help us study our spelling words.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite website to use was http://www.arcademics.com/games/spelling-bees/spelling-bees.html. I found this website to be entertaining and interactive unlike the other websites I just listened and the spelled the word. This game helped me get the pronunciation of a few difficult words. This website was different because of how we have to play against other players and spell quickly and correctly. In all I think this was the best website because it was different than the other websites
ReplyDeleteI went through the websites given above to find websites in which I could go through a mini spelling bee of my own. The Merriam Webster website was what I was looking for. It gave me a mini quiz and I found a page which had frequently misspelled words and homonyms often misused. This website goes into the depth of each word, teaching us its origin, root, definition, and word usage. To use what I learned about spelling I found a page that had a small quiz. I found that quizzes really help me in simulating the real spelling bee. In an interactive spelling bee on Annenberg Learner I did quizzes that forced me to find the word through the context of the sentence. I was given the definition, a sentence, and its origin much like a real spelling bee. I also found a similar quiz based on grade level in the Scripps National Spelling Bee website. Discovering that a mini spelling bee is my best way of studying I form small quizzes with family and friends that help me study the words through a simulation of the real Spelling Bee.
ReplyDeleteI used the arcademics website and I enjoyed the games because I personally like to be interactive more than just read about something and just sit down and study, so I liked that one. I also liked the merriam-webster spell-it, I like how it includes from all the different languages for us to learn and gives you the definition and pronunciation, also they included a small test in the end. Finally I liked the merriam-webster website because it included different quizzes for multiple topics and has many games. So these 3 are the most ones I have used and enjoyed, but i think the most effective one is the arcademic website because it has competition and that usually encourages people to try harder and if we try harder in that we will probably know the words better. I also used the method of taking a small spelling bee at home so I learn my mistakes and focus on those words the most.
ReplyDeleteI used four out of 6 of the games. I liked the Word Club the best since it gave the pronunciation, meaning, and the games were easy yet informative. I also like the Merriam-Webster Spell It! It gave me spelling tips and the country of origin which helped with the roots of the word. All the websites were helpful in their own way, while some focused on the spelling others focused on the use and the vocabulary.
ReplyDeleteI ended up trying all of the spelling practices, and the only one that was helpful the Scripps National Spelling Bee Website. This was the case because the website was from the spelling bee, so they incorporate the same spelling bee words, which help you study the most.
ReplyDeleteI find all the spelling websites useful, since you are learning vocabulary words no matter which websites you use. These are all good, since they all help you with spelling, but the Scripps National Spelling website www.spellingbee.com is the most useful since it displays words that you will be tested on in the national spelling bee, so you will be better prepared for it. You learn words that are for sure going to be asked on the national spelling bee, so the Scripps National Spelling website is the most effective way to prepare for the Spelling Bee. To study for the spelling bee, it is also useful to memorize greek and latin roots so you can remember word patterns.
ReplyDeleteI found that the sites that included the etymology, connotations, and definitions of the (spelling) words to be of most benefit to my understanding surrounding spelling. And although the games and sites were all very useful, the one that was particularly gainful was the Merriam-Webster Spell It. The site provided the language of origin for each word along with its part of speech, definition, and pronunciation. Pronunciation, in my opinion, is perhaps the most important thing one must know about an English word in order to spell it as the English language is not a phonetic one, therefore, knowing how to pronounce a word helps may help a speller recognize it if they were asked about that particular word.

Good job! You wrote really well. Yes, the Merriam-Webster Spell It was really beneficial.
DeleteOne of the sites I found helpful and interesting was http://www.arcademics.com/games/spelling-bees/spelling-bees.html. This site was also fun. It it had many games that could help you with your spelling. I also liked http://spellingbee.com/wordclub because it has the words we use for our spelling bee. The websites are very helpful for us to practice for our spelling bee.
ReplyDeletethe two most helpful websites in my prospective are http://spellingbee.com/wordclub, and http://www.arcademics.com/games/spelling-bees/spelling-bees.html.
ReplyDeleteI thought these were the most helpful because they were sites thet were interactive, and gave you tips about how to spell some words. This also helped because one of the sites showed where the words originated from. I would also add one site called https://www.learnthat.org/. I think the learnthat.org is useful because it has a reward system which makes students compete in whose a better speller

GOOD JOB THOUGH! :D
Personally, I found the Scripps National Spelling Bee website the best. This is because I was given the definition, part of speech, and the origin. It also helped to have a sentence with it that helped me understand the usage. I also learned how to pronounce words that I was not sure of. Not only spelling is a big part of the Bee so is the pronunciation. If you spell the word right and pronounce it wrong then you're out. I felt the pronunciation helped me a lot. Overall the level 8 went over known words and unknown words as well. It allowed me to learn a word and review another. It was also helpful that we got to review words that came from the list.
ReplyDeleteout of the 6 that were entitald to do, I think the script spelling bee was the most informative and straight forward. I like the script spelling bee quizes because it gives you the definition, part of speech and the root word all in one page so it is easy to see how the root word and other important information is actually crucial for me to understand and incorporate in our spelling. It even has a little tip/reminder if the word is tricky or there is a common pronunciation of another word that sound like the word you are trying to spell and for me, I find that very helpful. And I also like how we can hear the person say it clearly and how he says some words in multiple common pronunciations. And he not only does that, but you can replay the word as many times as you like this way if you didn't hear it right the first time you can always hear it again. I also like how some of the word are he same as the one that were are going to be tested on and we can immediately know what is the definition of the word and what is the origin etc. And last but not least, I like how you can see your results instantly after you finish the quiz and there is a link to were you can retake the quiz
ReplyDeleteI think the most helpful website for me was the Scripps National Spelling Bee website (http://spellingbee.com/wordclub). I found it helpful because of the information it gives you about the word you are about to spell, for example, the part of speech, definition, and the language of origin. Once you’ve completed the quiz, it shows you the words you’ve misspelled. Another website I found useful was https://www.learner.org/interactives/spelling/. On this website, you need to spell words that are said to you in the provided sentences. I think that spelling it in sentences helps because you can tell what type of word that is to be used in the sentence. The activity also offers a definition.
ReplyDeleteI found that all the websites were beneficial, as they each contributed a vital piece of information to a word. The sites that included the spelling word’s etymology were particularly useful, as the root of the word is what helps you gain thorough depth and understanding of the word. Merriam Webster was advantageous as it gave you the pronunciations of all words. Pronunciation is crucial in spelling any word as it can help identify the derivation of the word, assisting you in your spelling. Knowing various facts about a word such as the part of speech, homonymous terms, and definitions can surely be helpful in the path of successful spelling.

All of the websites were beneficial. The first one I liked the most was the merriam webster website because it gave the root, definition and pronunciation. The other website I liked wasacademic.com because you can have fun with games. In that website you could play games with words.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is helpful and fun when you are playing a game that is with words that you do or do not know, and it helps you by giving the root, and the definition.
DeleteThe websites that I found really helpful were the learner.org and the Scripp's National Spelling Bee website. These websites helped me prepare for the Spelling Bee because it told me the part of speech, definition, pronunciation, and other things as well. I tried only a few of the games, and they did help me study, but they weren't as helpful as the other websites. I also thought the Merriam Webster dictionary website was neat because it gave me the etymology of the word, which is extremely helpful. All in all, I thought these websites were really nice and helped me prepare well for the Spelling Bee.
